Marri Adithya Reddy | Tandur Agriculture

Tandur’s red gram harvest is looking weak. Two months ago, several analysts decreased their estimates for Tandur’s red gram crop yields on account of bad weather. Dry spells in the main growing region had turned the crops dry. Despite the little rainfall that offered them some relief, the moisture required during the flowering stage earlier in the year had already sealed their fate.  Red gram is cultivated across 1 lakh acres in the Vikarabad district, of which Tandur alone constitutes half the crop. Well known for its red gram cultivation all over the nation, bad weather isn’t the only aspect that’s causing Tandur’s famous crop to fade away. Earlier, farmers were earning profits by cultivating the crop in hundreds of hectares of land. But according to agricultural experts, farmers lack the scientific approach, technical skill in cultivation and marketing strategy to turn a profit for their produce. The establishment of a red gram board would have boosted their ability in inc

Marri Adithya Reddy | The Rocky Road To Tandur

The status of roads, bridges and railways is critical to economic development and public safety. However, for the citizens of Tandur, poorly maintained roadways and traffic congestion have become the new normal.  The busy industrial town has diverse transportation needs but has been on the receiving end of the most negligent care despite receiving plenty of funds. Even after being given a massive Rs. 25 crore for construction and beautification of roads that were supposed to be met with certain specifications, the works which have been carried by the Roads and Buildings department have not met the specified standards. Earlier in the year, 86 cement concrete roads were to be laid in the Tandur mandal, but only 36 could be completed within the allotted timeline — the execution of which was rushed and haphazard. Lack of concern and interest in road safety and maintenance has led to bigger problems like constant traffic congestion. About 500 heavy vehicles hit the roads in

Marri Adithya Reddy | Working towards improving urban infrastructure

One of Adithya’s top priorities is solving Telangana’s road safety crisis. Our state ranked 8th in the country in terms of total number of road accidents recorded last year and stood in at 9th when it came to contributing to the total number of traffic fatalities in the country.  Our local roads have been so inadequately maintained that potholes alone are a major cause of disgruntlement among Hyderabad’s citizens and have also given rise to the number of fatal accidents from it. Not only do we need to improve Telangana’s roads; we need to revise the drunk-driving laws and footpath encroachment removal. A strong infrastructure is more than just patching potholes, it is key for successful economic development. Adithya’s goals for road safety measures and maintenance include: Working on road repair and safety issues, especially on the ones which cause road accidents and demand for roads free of potholes. Spreading the word among the people of the city by asking them to ap

Marri Adithya Reddy | Helping farmers and the agriculture community

Agriculture is woven into the fabric of the Indian heritage and has long been an important part of our culture; which is why, of all the initiatives taken up by Adithya, the ‘Farmers Connect’ is one of utmost importance.  When farm families suffer, our rural communities also suffer — whether it’s the alarmingly high rate of farmer suicides, debt burden, financial distress or poor wage growth among the many other issues that our farmers face. Under the TRS party’s four years in office, prospects for rural Telangana have gone down by every measure. As of today, Telangana is one of the five states that account for 90% of all farmer suicides. The All India Financial Inclusion Survey 2016-2017 shows Telangana stands highest in indebtedness of farmers with over 40% of them from non-institutional resources. Adithya has seen first-hand the impacts of failure to invest in the farmers and rural communities and he knows how important it is to restore healthy, vibrant rural communities,
